Since 2009, tourism has been recognized as a strategic pillar industry in China. China was predicted as #1 in inbound tourism, and #4 in outbound tourism in the world by 2020. Tourism was booming in Asia and steadily growing in the world. It reflects a gradual and steady trend for people in different parts of the world to have intense interaction and integration.
The College of Tourism and Service Management (CTSM) at Nankai University (NKU) was formed in 2010 in view of the growing significance of the tourism industry to China, Asia and the world. The purpose of tourism education are the pursuit of knowledge and the development of human beings, and today it is known for offering a hospitality education emphasizes on experiential learning and industry researching, also with a tourism marketing and management in a global perspective.
CTSM is the merger of China Tourism Management Institute (administered by China National Tourism Administration) and Tourism Department of Nankai University. Since 1981, Nankai has been offering undergraduate education in Tourism Management, which is the 1st university in China and was entitled to award Master Degree in Tourism Management since 1991, Doctor Degree in Tourism Management since 2003, and Master of Tourism Administration Degree since 2010. Over 10,000 students graduated in the past 30 years. Thousands of them had madeenormous contributions to the Hospitality and Tourism Industry andachieved prominent and remarkable success in both academic and industry fields. Nowadays, CTSM is regarded as the leading school in tourism research and education in China.
